A festive success
Following a call from the retail sector to scale up marketing support during a critical trading period, December 2018 saw the return of Santa’s Post Office together with a festive visitor trail for families and children and two new amazing 3D light additions. We introduced Brearley Bear in the hunt for Brearley’s Lost Christmas List. More than 10,000 people visited Santa’s Post Office and over 4,780 took part in the trail. Our Christmas activities were aimed at boosting both the number of visitors to the city during this key retail period and driving increased spend into our city centre shops, restaurants, leisure and entertainment venues.
Festive footfall reached a 3-year high, bucking the national trend in December 2018. The increase in footfall spread across all areas of the city centre with Fargate up 3%, Division Street up 1.6% and the Moor 6.6% (up 2% from December 2017).
