The Coronavirus Act 2020 received Royal Assent on 25 March, having been fast-tracked through Parliament. The Act contains emergency powers to enable public bodies to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Act has a section dedicated to Business Improvement Districts. This can be found in Chapter 7, Section 79 and is titled Extension of BID arrangements (England).
Any BID whose term finishes between 25 March 2020 up to and including 31 December 2020 is now automatically extended to 31 March 2021.
Sheffield BID was about to go to a renewal ballot before the Act was passed. The Notice of Ballot was issued on 19 March. Subsequently, the ballot was suspended before voting papers were issued.
Sheffield BID's first term was due to end on 31 July 2020 but is now automatically extended to 31 March 2021. A renewal ballot will be held later in the year but not later than 28 February 2021.
