Sheffield city centre will be home to over half a million LEGO® bricks this summer as Sheffield BID brings the ever-popular Sheffield Bricktropolis back to the city centre.
LEGO® fans of all ages will once again get set to explore the city centre on the Sheffield Bricktropolis trail, a stunning visitor trail of brick sculptures. This year’s theme is sure to delight and enchant people of all ages as the trail will feature 15 Dinosaur models.
The Brickosaurs trail will take visitors on a journey to a land that time forgot and includes a 2m tall Velociraptor and a Parasaurolophus which measures over 3m in length. The 15 models will be placed in a number of well-known city centre locations and families will be able to explore them all using the official Sheffield Bricktropolis Trail Guide.
As well as the Brickosaurs sculpture trail, there will be plenty on offer to entertain visitors of all ages. This includes an Interactive Play Zone, an opportunity to contribute to the creation of giant mosaics made from Lego® bricks, as well as a separate exhibition of sculptures and creations that are being developed by adult fans of Lego®. And, across the city centre, there will be a number of other activities that will form part of the Sheffield Bricktropolis fringe programme. More details will be announced over the coming weeks.
Diane Jarvis, Head of Business Operations, said: “We are so happy to be able to bring Sheffield Bricktropolis back to the city centre. Our previous events (World Landmarks and Outer Space) were big hits for visitors.
“One of Sheffield BID's key objectives is to help keep the city centre vibrant with a diverse set of events throughout the year. August can be a quieter time with students away and many people on their summer holiday, so Sheffield Bricktropolis is a great opportunity to get families, residents and new visitors into the city centre to support our local businesses.
“It demonstrates Sheffield BID’s continued commitment to delivering additional activities which support the vibrancy and economic growth of our city through collaboration, helping to drive footfall and spend into our retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.
“We are confident that Sheffield Bricktropolis will once again provide the perfect opportunity for people to come back together and to celebrate what is probably everyone’s favourite childhood brick. From the little ones, right through to the big kids out there, Sheffield Bricktropolis will have something for all fans of LEGO® and let’s not forget, Dinosaurs.”
Sheffield Bricktropolis takes place between Saturday 6th and Sunday 21st August at venues across Sheffield city centre.
