Are you passionate about the success of Sheffield city centre and are you inspired to give your time to this unique opportunity ...
Sheffield City Centre BID Ltd (“Sheffield BID”) is seeking to appoint several new non-executive directors (NEDs) to its Board of Directors.
Our NEDs support the executive officer and our Board Chair in providing strong leadership of the BID Company and its associated structures. They provide oversight and scrutiny alongside challenge and leadership of the BID Company to ensure its continued success.
As a BID NED you will support and manage relationships and work collaboratively across the strategic priorities of the city centre BID area as well as overseeing appropriate reviews.
In addition, you will ensure the BID operates within the parameters of its strategy and business plan and that it is run in a transparent and equitable manner.
About the Company
Sheffield BID is a not-for-profit company that delivers the city centre business improvement district, which is a place-related investment scheme regulated by government statute. In addition to delivering the BID scheme, the Company is also generating additional income through other activities.
About the city centre (cross-sector) BID
A Business Improvement District (BID) is part of a city/town, tourism and visitor area, commercial district, or specific theme (such as food and drink), in which businesses work together to invest in local improvements. The BIDs model is designed to help local businesses to improve their communities. Sheffield's city centre BID is a cross-sector arrangement where occupiers in properties with a rateable value (RV) in excess of £40,000 pay an annual 1% levy on the RV.
BIDs are created through a ballot of eligible businesses and last for five years. To continue beyond five years, a renewal ballot must be held. The Sheffield city centre BID was renewed in February 2021. (Currently there are 322 BID schemes now operating in the UK.)
Through a diverse set of projects and services the city centre BID is focussed on a cleaner, safer and more welcoming trading environment, and increasing visitor participation through a vibrant programme of innovations and diverse events, festivals and cultural activities which encourage dwell time and drive spend.
Who can apply?
The BID Company welcomes applications from individuals who own or are employed by a city centre business that pays the BID levy.
